3 steps to rent a car

After you have decided on a self-driving tour,
please prepare the following documents:
  • Passport
  • International Driving Permit (issued by a contracting state of the Convention at Geneva 1949 ※)
    Driver's license in Japan or International Driving Permit
  • Credit card
※International Driving Permit issued by a contracting state (such as Hong Kong, Korea, Thailand, etc. apart from Japan) of the Convention at Geneva 1949.
An International Driving Permit is valid for 1 year from the day it was issued (please confirm the issuance date). You can only use an International Driving Permit in Japan for one year from the initial date of entry (according to the date on the entry stamp in your passport).

Make a reservation in advance on the website of a car rental shop at the Chubu Centrair International Airport.
There are 5 car rental shops at the airport.
(It is recommended to make a reservation 1 week in advance)
Pick up your reserved car at the car rental shop.
Once you arrive at the Chubu Centrair International Airport, you can go to the car rental shop directly to pick up your reserved car!
Things to note when driving in Japan
Whether driving or parking, please observe the traffic and driving rules in Japan, in order to enjoy a perfect self-driving tour.
  • Rule of the roadRoads in Japan use a left-hand traffic system. Please pay attention not to drive on the wrong side (right side) of the road.
  • Speed limitPlease follow the speed limit signs. Please reduce your driving speed to 20km/h or less when passing through the ETC lane.
  • Seat beltIt is mandatory for passengers in both front and rear seats to fasten seat belts in Japan.
  • Use of parking lotDo not park on the roadside at sightseeing spots. Please park at a nearby parking lot.
  • Return of rental carPlease refuel before returning the car. (You may be requested by the rental car shop to refuel at designated gas stations)
